    Given: Point P (10, 4)

    Solution:

    The angle of force with horizontal is given as

    tan α = 4 / 10

    α = tan -1 (0.4)

    α = 21.80°

    x-component = 500 cos α

    = 500 cos 21.80 = 464.24 N

    y-component = 500 sin α

    = 500 sin 21.80 = 185 N
