Only States can declare drought

Q.  Who can declare droughts in India?

a. Centre
b. State/s
c. Judiciary and the Centre
d. State/s and the Centre

ANSWER: State/s

  • The onus is entirely on the States to declare a drought.
  • Also it is for the States concerned to explain the delay in declaring drought and not on the Centre to shoulder that burden in the Supreme Court.
