    - Overall magnification of optical comparators is given as (2f / d) x magnification of eye piece.
    here,

f = focal length of lens
d = distance between pivot and plunger

    - Optical comparators depend upon optical system and magnified image of work piece. This helps in obtaining high degree of accuracy.

    - The accuracy of these comparators is limited to 0.001 mm. They have no parallax error and have high magnification.

    - Readings can be easily obtained in a dark room when scale is projected on a screen. They are not very convenient to use due to eye piece. Due to high magnification they have achieve high precision.
