The Sursagar Society of Dilli Gharana in August 2016 announced it will confer the annual Sangeet Martand Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime Achievement Award on saunter maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.
  • Society has been felicitating stalwarts of Indian classical music and dance with the award since 1986
  • The award is for recognising contribution towards enriching art forms.
  • In 2015, the honour was conferred upon Kathak dance artist Pandit Birju Maharaj.
  • Other recipients of the award include Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Abdul Halleem Jaffar kKhan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan.
  • Award carries a prize of INR 50,000 and a memento and citation.
  • Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma is an Indian santoor player
  • Santoor is the folk instrument of hill state of Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Sharma was born in Jammu on 13th January 1938.
  • He is credited with making the Santoor a popular classical instrument.
  • He also composed background music for several films like Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje.
  • In the year 1967, he teamed up with flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia and Nirj Bhushan Kabra to produce a concert album called Call of the Valley that turned out to be one of the greatest hits in Indian classical music scene.
