Length measured between two lines is called as line standard. There is high possibility of parallax error in line standards if reading is not measured or viewed exactly from the perpendicular distance to the ruler. The reading measured becomes less accurate as the apparent position shifts and appropriate reading cannot be obtained.

In end standards, improper wringing or change in temperature results in errors. Length between two parallel surfaces is measured in end standards.
