The significant function of power transistor is to handle an extensive amount of large currents. Hence, for this purpose, there is necessity of large emitter areas in order to prevent the current crowding and maintain reasonable
    current densities.

Therefore, with an intention to reduce the parasitic base resistance, power transistors are deigned with narrow widths of emitter & hence, they are fabricated as interdigitated structure.

Interdigitated structure assists in minimizing the current crowding which finally results in the prevention of second breakdown.
