Q.  The relation between number of links and number of lower pairs is given as n = 2p – 4. If L.H.S is less than R.H.S of this equation then the chain is

    - In the equation n = 2p – 4,

    n = number of links, p = number of lower pairs.

    For eg if n = 2 and p = 4 then,

    2 = (2 x 4) – 4
    2 = 4

    Here L.H.S < R.H.S, therefore the chain is considered as unconstrained.

    - According to A W Klein rule, if

    1) L.H.S = R.H.S, then the chain is constrained.

    2) L.H.S > R.H.S, then the chain is locked or is called as structure.

    3) L.H.S < R.H.S, then the chain is considered as unconstrained.
