A gear having less number of teeth achieves better reliable gear transmission when centre distance is fixed. Helix angle ranges between 15o and 45o. Higher helix angle results in smooth operation and more end thrust while smaller helix angle results in less end thrust. Helix angle above 45o is not recommended. Helix angle is an angle made by teeth with axis of rotation Interference is caused when the tooth profiles overlap and cut each other and if helix angle increases number of teeth decreases and interference can be avoided.
