    - Temperature or thermal stress is induced when expansion or contraction due to temperature variation is prevented.

    - When temperature increases, thermal stress induced in a steel rod is compressive and when temperature decreases thermal stress induced in a steel rod is tensile in nature.

    - The deformation of a material caused due temperature variation is known as natural deformation. As temperature rises and falls, the material contracts or expands.
