    - A replica of an object to be cast is known as a pattern.

    - Patterns are used to make cavity in which molten metal is poured during the casting process. The pattern should be good enough to make casting process accurate.

    - Therefore, some requirements of good pattern are as follows:

    1. The pattern should be light in weight so that it can be handled easily to make cavity.

    2. There should not be any need of surface finishing of final cast after casting process is over. Therefore, the surface of pattern should be smooth enough to make the cavity smooth and so the surface of final cast.

    3. It should have high strength and long life so that it will be used again and again.
