    - In a risk-based approach, the risks identified may be used for the following:

    1. Determine the test techniques to be employed for testing the application. Different techniques may be required to test the risk and controls.

    2. Determine the extent of testing to be carried out in terms of breadth and depth of testing. More risk may warrant more testing in those areas.

    3. Prioritize testing in an attempt to find the critical defects as early as possible so that they can be fixed. This can prevent defect contamination from one phase to another.

    4. Determine whether any non-testing activities could be employed to reduce risk e.g. providing training to users. These controls may be built in deployment process.
