Section 66(A) repealed by SC

Q.  The Supreme Court has quashed Section 66(A) of the Information Technology Act terming it "vague" and "unconstitutional”.

1. Section 66(A) was originally part of IT Act 2000.
2. Because of this result, court order is required to take down the content published on-line.

- The Information Technology Act came into force in 2000, but Section 66A was added as an amendment in 2008, which was notified in February 2009.
- The section 66(A) can punish imprisonment up to three years, a fine of up to Rs. 5 lakh or both.
