Q.  If 2x +3y = 30 and (x+y)/y = 11/8, then find the value of 5y + 6x
- Published on 07 Jul 17

a. 72
b. 58
c. 64
d. 29

ANSWER: 58

The given equations are :

2x + 3y = 30 --------- (i)
and, (x+y)/y = 11/8
8x + 8y = 11y
8x – 3y =0 ----(ii)

Adding (i) & (ii), we get : 10 x = 30 or x = 3.

Put x = 3 in (i), we get : y = 8
Therefore, 5y + 6x = (5 * 8 + 6 * 3) = 40 + 18 = 58.
