Q.  If 5x + y = 15, 5y + z = 25 and 2z + x = 2, what is the value of x ?
- Published on 22 Apr 16

a. 2
b. 7
c. 9
d. 12
e. None of these

ANSWER: 2

5x + y = 15 –-------I * 5
5y + z = 25 –------ II
2z + x = 2 -------- III

Subtract (I) and (II)
25x + 5y + 0 = 75
- 0 + 5y + z = 25
-------------------------------
25x + 0 – z = 50 ….......... IV
Multiply (IV)*2, we get 50x – 2z = 100
Adding (III) and (IV) we get,

50x – 2z = 100
+ x + 2z = 2
------------------------
51 x = 102
x = 2
The value of x = 2
