The output voltage of oscillator can be either sinusoidal or non-sinusoidal. Some of the sinusoidal oscillators include RC-phase shift, Wein bridge, Hartely, Colpitt, Clapp oscillators.
Non-sinusoidal oscillators has the ability to generate either square-wave or triangular, ramp waves at the output. Therefore, the multi-vibrators of all types belong to the category of square wave oscillators.
