ICM 7217 in common anode and cathode versions are decade counters, which provide the maximum count of about 9999, while ICM 7217B & ICM 7217C in common anode and common cathode respectively are applicable for timing purposes, whose provision of maximum count is about 5959.

According to functional block schematic of ICM 7217 A, it is possible to blank the leading zeros. Thus, the data which appears at the 7 segments and BCD outputs can be latched. Due to this, the transfer of counter content takes place into the latches under the external control by means of STORE pin.

Thus, RESET pin helps to reset the functional level of MUX inputs & outputs along with the display control logic.
UP/DOWN pin highlights the status of up-down count necessary at the functional level of ICM 7217A.

EQUAL is not a pin but an output generated by ICM 7217A which implies that the count is equal to the value present in register.
