    - Steel has less coefficient of thermal expansion than copper, due to this copper expands more than steel.

    - Equilibrium condition can be maintained when copper is compressed and steel is elongated or pulled.

    - Hence, the type of stress induced in copper bar is compressive as it is compressed and stress induced in steel bar is tensile as it needs to be elongated.
