We know that the drag force can be defined as the component of the total force exerted by fluid on a body in the direction parallel to the direction of motion. Therefore the sum of components of shear forces in the direction of flow of fluid is called as friction drag or skin drag or shear drag.

Friction drag or skin drag or shear drag can be defined as the drag occurs due to the friction of fluid against the surface of an object that is moving through it.

Turbulent flow creates more skin friction as it creates much larger boundary layer than laminar flow.
