ANSWER: Vernal equinox

The Vernal Equinox is an astronomical event marking the start of spring in the northern hemisphere. It is the only day when daytime and nighttime are of equal length. It happens on 19th, 20th or 21st March each year usually. Spring starts in September south of the equator on the same day as north highlights the start of Autumn. Vernal is the Latin word for spring and it is one of two equinox that occur each year. The other is the Autumnal Equinox in September.
