    - If uncertainty of load distribution is observed between surfaces in contact, two assumptions are considered as below:

    1) Uniform pressure theory

    2) Uniform wear theory

    - Uniform pressure theory is used to determine safe design of bearings.

    - It gives the maximum power lost in overcoming friction. Hence the net power available for friction is minimum.

    - The frictional torque by uniform pressure theory is greater than torque determined by uniform wear theory
