    • Composite materials are formed when two or more constituent materials having different physical and chemical properties are combined and form a material different from two individual components. There are different types of composite materials such as particle reinforced, fiber reinforced and structural. These are further divided into different sub-classes.

    • Structural composite materials are classified into two types such as laminates and sandwich panels. Particle reinforced are classified as large particle and dispersion strengthened particles.

    • Structural composite is homogeneous material and composite materials. The properties of these materials also depend upon the geometrical design of various structural elements.

    • Sandwich panels contain two strong outer sheets separated by a layer of less dense material which have low stiffness and strength.
