Micrometer and vernier calipers are direct and end measuring instruments. Divider is an indirect measuring instrument.

The difference between two scales is used by a vernier to obtain small measurements. A vernier consists of two scales i.e measuring scale and auxiliary scale. Measuring scale is measured in mm, inches, degree, etc.

Micrometer consists of an accurate screw and nut for measurement. Outside micrometers, depth micrometers, etc use micrometer principle. The object is held between anvil and spindle to measure dimensions.

Dividers are used to transfer dimensions from scales to objects. They are used to measure, draw arcs and circles and to divide angles and lines into parts.
