    - The cross-section of V belt is trapezoidal and the pulley is grooved in V shape.

    - These belts are generally used when the distance between two pulleys is small. These belts have less slippage and can be used to transmit power at high speeds.

    - V belts provide best combination of traction, speed movement, long service life, etc. As the V shape of belt tracks in the mating groove in pulley, slipping is avoided. It also tends to wedge into the groove when load increases. As load increases, the wedging action also increases and thus improves the torque transmitting capacity. This makes V-belt more effective than flat belts as they need less width and tension.
