    - The line for which sum of squares of errors is minimum is called as least square line. This is used to measure straightness of a surface.

    - If autocollimator method is used to determine straightness of a surface. Maximum deviation is obtained by joining first and last positions obtained and the profile for the measured surface is obtained.
