    - The deterioration of metals by reaction with its environment is called as corrosion.

    - During corrosion, properties of metals change and lead to impairment of metal functions.

    - Different factors influencing corrosion are heat treatment and grain direction, temperature, availability of oxygen, mechanical stresses on corroding metals, biological organisms, etc.

    - Different types of corrosion are: corrosion fatigue, sulphide corrosion, erosion corrosion, cavitation corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, etc.
