Different types of gear tooth failures occur due to bending and wear. Destructing pitting is a type of pitting failure which is caused due to repetitive contact stresses. If sum of static and dynamic loads on gear tooth exceed wear strength destructive pitting starts on tooth surface. It begins as a micro-crack and develops into a big pit on surface.
Galling is lubrication failure and corrosion wear occurs due to chemical action.
