The process of cycling through two temperature extremes at considerably high rates of change is known as temperature cycling. This process is widely applicable to age products through fatigue.

Since the components exhibit the properties of heating and cooling down, they also go on expanding and contracting. This ultimately results in failure over the time.

However, as the technique is used in the manufacturing of the screen products along with evaluating designs in order to catch early-term latent effects, it is regarded as 'Environmental Stress Screening'. As the testing is performed concerning to the heating & cooling properties, it is also known as ' Burn-In Testing'.
