- Modulus of rigidity is also called as shear modulus.
- Shear modulus is the ratio of shear stress and shear strain and is used to determine stiffness of materials.
- Shear stress is directly proportional to shear strain within elastic limit.
- The materials response to shear stress is determined by shear modulus whereas Young's modulus describes response of the materials to uniaxial stress and bulk modulus describes response of materials to uniform pressure.
- Modulus of rigidity is related with the deformation of solids, when they experience a force which is parallel to one surface and its opposite surface experiences an opposing force.
