    - A microscope is used to measure linear dimensions of an object in image shearing technique.

    - Optical system used in this technique produces two identical images of the object.

    - In double shear technique, images are moved across until they have edge to edge contact on other side. High accuracy is obtained in double shear technique.

    - In single shear technique, two images have edge to edge contact and later on one image is shifted some distance over the other.
