    - After defining a problem, the next step followed is synthesis.

    - In synthesis, the desired output is obtained by creating mechanisms or shapes of mechanical elements for a machine.

    - After synthesis, free body diagram of each element is drawn to find out forces acting on each element such as moment and torque.

    - The next step followed is selecting suitable material for each element and later on determining mode of failure.

    - Factor of safety is selected and the permissible design stresses are determined.

    - By determining and modifying the dimensions, drawings are prepared. Finally design report is finalized.
