      - Hierarchical routing is a method of routing in networks that is based on hierarchical addressing.

      - It is the process of arranging routers in a hierarchical manner.

      - If the network size is increased, the size of the routing tables of the routers also increases. Because of this, more CPU time is required to scan the tables and bandwidth is required to send a status report about the tables.

      - Hierarchical routing is used to overcome this problem.

      - Sometimes the network becomes so large that the size of the router table becomes excessively large and practically it becomes impossible for every router to have an entry for every other router. For avoiding this kind of problem hierarchical routing is used.
