    The reaction turbine works on the principle of impulse and reaction. A part of all the pressure energy of water is converted into kinetic energy before supplied to runner. Thus, water entering the runner has partly the pressure energy and partly the kinetic energy.

    Therefore, In reaction turbine most of the work is done due to change in pressure head and very small of work is done due to change in kinetic energy.

    Whereas, in impulse turbine, total work is done due to change in kinetic energy of the water jet.
