The National Satellite Communication Group was established in 1968. The aim of the group was to look after the possible usage of the contemporary communication satellite in India. The group consisted of various representations from the cabinet ministers, All India Radio and Doordarshan. A mission was sent to India during the period of 18th November 1967 to 8th December 1967 to prepare a report on the pilot project regarding the use of satellite communication.
