What is RIB, Routing Information Base? 

Routing Information Base (RIB): RIB is the heart of Boarder Gateway Protocol’s system of routing system management. Handling RIB consists of stored routes database. The three separate sections which are used by BGP speaker, Adj-RIBs-in,Loc-RIB and Adj-RIBs-out are part of RIB to handle the input and output of routing information. The routes are available for selection is essentially part of RIB. RIB comprises essentially the sum of

- all routes that are learnt via dynamic routing protocols
- all directly attached networks, and
- any additional configured routes such as static routes
