Ans. BITSAT is a computer based online test. It is conducted for admission into Integrated First Degree Programs of BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Science).

Q. When is the BITSAT online exam conducted?

Ans. BITSAT online paper is conducted mostly in the month of May and June. BITSAT is offered over a period of time where a candidate may opt the BITSAT test center and the day and time according to one’s convenience within the allotted period. The questions in the paper are randomly generated by the computer and therefore every candidate receives a unique set of question paper.

Q. When are the Applications issued for BITSAT?

Ans. The applications are issued mostly in the month of February. For query regarding admission details, the candidate may contact at admnoc@pilani.bits-pilani.ac.in.

Q. What are the eligibility criteria for appearing in BITSAT?

Ans. For admission into any of the Integrated First Degree Engineering Programs of BITS, candidate should have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized state or central board or its equivalent with core subjects as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The candidate must have a good ability to understand English. The candidate must have an aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in class 12th examination. The candidate must have a minimum of 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The candidates already studying in the BITS campus are not eligible to take the exam.

Q. If a candidate seeks admission in BITS and has not secured a minimum of 75% marks, is the candidate eligible if one repeats a few of the subjects in the qualifying examination and secures 75% marks?

Ans. If a candidate is repeating 12th exam, one has to appear for all the exams again as mandatory by the board. Improvement taken only in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will not serve the purpose.

Q. What is the paper pattern of BITSAT?

Ans. The BITSAT paper consists of 150 questions. The paper consists of four parts as follows:

- Part I: Physics, with 40 questions
- Part II: Chemistry, with 40 questions
- Part III: Mathematics/ Biology with 45 questions
- Part IV: a) English Proficiency with 15 questions
b) Logical Reasoning with 10 questions

The paper consists of multiple choice objective- type questions, having four choices for each out of which only one answer is correct. For every correct answer, there is a score of three marks. The paper has negative marking scheme where one negative mark is assigned to every incorrect answer. However, no marks are deducted from the total score if any question is not attempted in the answer sheet. The candidate may skip or review the questions performed by going back and may also change the answers.

Q. What is the language in which the BITSAT paper may be attempted?

Ans. The BITSAT question paper and the instructions to be followed are only in English language.

Q. What is the duration of BITSAT exam?

Ans. The BITSAT paper is of three hours duration and there is no time limit to attempt the individual parts of the paper.

Q. What is the concept of Additional Questions in the BITSAT paper?

Ans. BITSAT offers additional 12 questions to the candidate if one performs all the 150 questions without skipping any of them before time. The candidate thus gets an advantage to score more. The extra questions are from the core subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with 4 questions from each subject. However, once the candidate opts for additional questions, one cannot go back to review the previously attempted 150 questions.

Q. How is the cut-off decided for BITSAT?

Ans. BITSAT cut-off is decided on the basis of number of applications received and the number of seats available in the Institute.

Q. Are practical marks also included while calculating the aggregate percentage?

Ans. The practical marks are included according to the method used by their respective boards.

Q. Is the candidate, who has passed 12th not in the current year but previous years, eligible to appear in BITSAT?

Ans. No, the candidate, who has not passed 12th in the current year but previous years, is not eligible to appear in BITSAT. If the candidate has attempted in 12th class for more than once, the latest performance of the candidate is considered.

Q. What is the admission criterion for admission into BITS after qualifying BITSAT?

Ans. The candidate is admitted into BITS after qualifying BITSAT on the basis of the score in the BITSAT exam subject to satisfying the minimum marks eligibility criterion in class 12th examination. Depending upon the merit of the candidate in BITSAT and the availability of the seats, the candidate will be offered a seat in branch of one’s choice and the campus.

Q. When are the scheduled dates for applications for admission into BITS?

Ans. The scheduled dates lie mostly in the month of May and June where the candidate has to apply with class 12th marks and order of preference for the course offered by the institute.

Q. After registering for BITSAT, does the candidate has to apply again for admission into BITS institute?

Ans. After registering for BITSAT, candidate has to apply again for admission into BITS institute. The candidate has to separately apply along with the marks detail of class 12th and the required application fee and order of preference to different degree programs offered by the institute.

Q. What is the online application procedure for BITS?

Ans The candidate has to apply online at the website www.bitsadmission.com. The application form consists of three parts. In Part I, the candidate has to fill the personal details. Part II has the details of the qualifying examination where subject wise details have to be entered and Part III offers the candidate to fill in the order of preference for the degree programs that the candidate aspires. Once the candidate confirms the entries, one cannot change the details. The application form is rejected if any handmade corrections are made on the form.

Q. If a candidate performs a mistake while entering preferences in the application form, is it possible to change that?

Ans. Though one has to be careful while entering preferences in the application form, but in case the candidate wants to change it, one may apply again with changed preference. This facility may only be availed once. The application is then sent to the admission office with a fee of Rs. 250/-.

Q. What is the online application fee for admission in BITS?

Ans. An application fee of Rs. 250/- is to be paid with the application form. The payment may be done by credit card/ Net Banking or by Cash payment at any of the ICICI bank branches through a challan. The challan may be taken as a print from the website along with the application form.

Q. Does the candidate have to apply separately for admissions into the BITS institutes at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad?

Ans. Only one application is to be sent for different campuses of BITS. The candidate may fill in the order of preference for the campuses in the application form.

Q. Does BITS offer any direct admissions to the institute?

Ans. BITS offers direct and assured admissions to the candidates who have obtained first ranks in their individual board exams. The institute offers such meritorious students the program of their choice irrespective of their BITSAT score. However, the candidate should have a minimum of an aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in class 12th examination. The candidate must have a minimum of 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Q. Does BITSAT have same set of questions for all the candidates?

Ans. The BITSAT paper consists of different set of questions for different candidates. The difficulty level and the content of the paper are maintained in an appropriate way.

Q. What is dual degree program in BITS?

Ans. In a dual degree program, the candidate can complete two first degree programs. It takes a minimum of five years to complete two programs.

Q. How to apply for dual degree program at BITS?

Ans. While applying for admission in BITS the candidate has to apply only for one of the first degree programs available. The candidate may then apply for dual degree at the end of first year at BITS.
