UN medal for exceptional courage


The UN Security Council unanimously voted for the establishment of UN medal for exceptional change in the name of an unarmed U.N. peacekeeper from Senegal, who lost his life after saving hundreds of Rwandans from death in the 1994 genocide. His name was Mbaye Diagne.

Nuclear free zone created


The five nuclear powers United States, Russia, China, Britain and France signed a treaty to create a nuclear free zone in 5 Asian countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The deal makes it mandatory for these countries to not manufacture, produce or purchase any kind of nuclear weapon but to use it only for peaceful purpose.

New president of Costa Rica


Luis Guillermo Solis has been sworn in as the 47th president of Costa Rica and has succeeded Laura Chinchilla.

11th May - National Technology Day


India is set to observe national technology day on 11th May. It recognizes and honors the technological achievements achieved on the day like Pokhran nuclear tests in 1998, test-flight of our first indigenous aircraft "Hansa-3" and successful test firing of the Trishul missile.
