“The day we fight back” celebrated across the world
The day we fight back is being celebrated by the online community in opposition to the USA spying programme which came in news last year after one of their own NSA agent Edward Snowden exposed the spying programme due to which USA’s relations with Brazil became bitter.
This day was named as The Day We Fight Back. The Day We Fight Back is a planned protest against NSA’s mass surveillance and a commemoration of late open-Internet activist Aaron Swartz, who was the co-founder of Reddit.
Popular groups like Mozilla, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Reddit and Boing Boing gave their support to this initiative. On this day, many online communities took a pledge to oppose and protest against any sort of spying.
Mudgal committee’s report
Gurunath Meiyappan, the son-in-law of BCCI chairman N. Srinivasan was alleged of betting and passing the information to bookies during IPL matches. Supreme court had set up a committee under the Justice Mukul Mudgal on 8th April 2013 to carry out the investigations.
After carrying out the required investigations, the committee has come to the conclusion that the charges of betting and passing the information on Meiyappan were true and that he was the face of Chennai Super Kings. The report has been submitted to honorable Supreme Court.
MILAN 2014
MILAN is biennial exercise of naval groups of various countries and it started in the year 1995. This year 17 countries took part in it and India hosted it at Port Blair.
These 17 countries were India, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Thailand. Jungle drill was introduced for the first time in this exercise.
Two new major ports in India
Sagar in west Bengal and Dugarajpatnam in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh are the two new ports which are to be established by 2020. As per the report prepared, the date of completion of the Phase-I of the project at Dugarajapatnam is 2018 and for Sagar 2019-20.
Currently, there are 12 major ports – Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Kolkata (with Haldia), Chennai, Visakhapatanam, Cochin, Paradip, New Mangalore, Marmagao, Ennore, Tuticorin and Kandla and these ports handle 2/3rd of the total traffic of the nation.
New PM of Nepal
Sushil Koirala was elected a sthe new Prime Minister of Nepal. He is the President of Nepal Congress and he was elected by the Nepali Parliament with 405 votes supporting him.
