New classical language of India
Odia becomes the sixth classical language of India apart from Sanskrit, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada and Malyalam. The proposal was made by the Culture Ministry in this context. It is to be noted that Odisha was the first state carved out on linguistic basis in 1936. There are 4 criterias for any language to become a classical language.
Andhra Pradesh CM resigned
The chief minister of A.P. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned following his opposition to the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He handed over his resignation to Governor E.S.L. Narsimhan. The quest for new CM has started.
First wild dog breeding centre
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park will get India’s first wild dog breeding centre in Vishakhapatnam. It will be the first zoo in the country to have breeding centre for wild dog “dhole”. The cost of the project is estimated at around 50 lakhs.
India’s first minority cyber village
Chandoli in Alwar district of Rajasthan has become the first minority cyber village in India. Union minister for minority affairs K Rehman Khan inaugurated the village has it has more than 80% of the minority population. In this village, now focus will be laid to provide computer education to people of age 15-59 years.
New oil secretary
Saurabh Chandra, who is currently working as the secretary of industrial policy and promotion department will soon take over as the new oil secretary. The present oil secretary Vivek Rae is set to retire by the end of February.
New chairperson of IIM Bangalore
IIM Bangalore has selected its new chairperson as Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, head of Beacon. This came after Mukesh Ambani decided to step down from his position as the chairperson of the institute.
National Mission for Green India (NMGI) approved
The union govt. approved the NMGI to increase the forest or tree cover in India and also to improve the quality of forest cover. This scheme will be financed by the centre and state in the ratio of 3:1 and for north eastern states it will be 90:10.
