New PM of Libya


Ahmed Maiteeg has become the new PM of Libya after receiving 121 votes in the 200 member Parliament. He won in the 2nd round of voting against political analyst Omar al-Hassi as the earlier session failed to give him the mandatory 120 votes.

Krishnaswamy Vijayraghavan has been appointed at the US National Academy of Science among the 21 foreign associates. He is the secretary of Department of Biotechnology. Obaid Siddiqi, CNR Rao, Raghavendra Gadagkar, Madhav Gadgil, and Roddam Narasimha.are the other Indians to have been there.

RV Verma, new wholetime member of PFRDA


RV Verma has become the new wholetime member of Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). As of now he is the chairman and MD of National Housing bank.

Nobel Prize winner in economics Gary Becker passed away at the age of 93.

RBI permits minors to open account,/h2>
RBI allowed minors above the age of 10 years to open and operate saving banks account. At present, banks allow minors (below 18) to operate bank accounts only along with a parent or a guardian.

Mark Selby wins World snooker championship


England’s Mark Selby won the championship defeating Ronnie O’ Sullivan who is a five time winner of the title.

World Economic Forum on Africa


Sunil Bharti Mittal will co chair this year’s World Economic Forum on Africa. The event, is to be held in Abuja (Nigeria) from May 7, has “Forging Inclusive Growth, Creating Jobs” as its theme.

New element discovered


Scientists have discovered a new element with atomic number 117. It is the second heaviest element created by humans after ununoctium (118) and has temporarily been named "Ununseptium".

RBI removes any penalty on pre-payment of loans


RBI has cautioned banks not to charge any penalty on pre payment of loans. Some customers foreclose their loans by switching to banks that offer loans at lower rates. Some banks charge as much as two per cent of the outstanding amount as penalty for foreclosure.

Militant group attacks Nigeria


Bako Haram, an Islamist Militant group rocked the Nigerian capital Abuja after taking the responsibility of bomb explosion attacks. The explosion killed at least 19 people and injured over 60. This was the second explosion in less than a month to have rocked Abuja. Boko Haram has been doing this for past many years to impose Shariah or Islamic Law in the nation.
