Explicit vs Implicit


Explicit – to clearly express or communicate something without leaving any room for doubt

For e.g.:

1. The notice explicitly states that the last date for submission is October 5th.

2. The restaurant has an explicit rule of no pets.

Implicit – the opposite of explicit; to hint or suggest something without expressing it in clear terms

For e.g.:

1. Some temples in Kerala have an implicit rule that forbids non-Hindus from entering the premises.

2. Principal Chopra does not lock his chamber, as it is an implicit rule that no one will enter when he is not around.
