It’s and Its


It’s refers to the short form of ‘it is’ or ‘it has’ and cannot be used in any other manner.

For example:

a. It’s been raining since morning and hence children did not go to school.
b. It’s hard to learn a new language and speak fluently.
c. Children are back from school and it’s the time for them to have bath

Its is the possessive form of ‘it’ for neutral gender, like his, her or theirs in possession of something.

For example:

a. The dog licks its own tail.
b. Company has organised a function marking its anniversary.
c. The chameleon changes its colour depending on the surrounding environment.
