Question: An MoU has been framed between National Mission for Clean Ganga And Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan for involving youth in restoring the Ganga river and combating pollution.

National Mission for Clean Ganga and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan/NYKS have signed a 5 year MoU

• This establishes a long term partnership for youth involvement in the abatement of pollution and conservation of Ganga

MoU has the following objectives:

- Involving youth in awareness creation
- Conduct of public outreach activities, afforestation,
- Drive for medicinal plants and native tree species
- Education of people for preventing refuse from entering the river
- Removal of floating solid waste
- Promotion of bio agriculture and clean village

• Under the MoU, NYKS volunteers will plant different types of saplings of medicinal plants as well as tree and fodder crops from Ganga Sagar to Gangotri

• Volunteers will also work for the cleanliness of the river Ganga

• Through public participation at local level, pollution abatement will be sought

• NMCG is the planning, monitoring, financing and coordinating body at the Centre supported by state level programmes and is an autonomous society of Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation

• NYKS is an autonomous body under the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports

• It was evolved to oversee the world of Nehru Yuva Kendras with 2.95 Lakh village level Youth Clubs across India with an enrolment of about 8.35 million volunteers in the age group of 13-35 years.
