NASSCOM Calls For A Digital Revolution

Going fully digital is the biggest challenge before India's IT sector now, accordigto NASSCOM's president, R. Chandrashekhar. The information technology industry in India is driving economic growth. It is the reason why India has become synonymous with excellence in IT outsourcing and infrastructure. The IT industry comprises software exporters and business process management companies have contributed to over 23 lakh jobs in our nation.

Industry body NASSCOM seeks more support and better opportunities as the new government takes the helm. The aim will be to build policies and programmes that enable India's IT sector to be a leader in the global field. It should also assist in the growth and development of the nation. The expected boost in the economic climate and the rise in technology spending should form the basis for the impetus of this industry.

NASSCOM has outlined 3 broad expectations from the current government in the aim to spur growth and development of this sector. The first aim is to create ecosystems which boost new businesses and start-ups and ensure their progress. The second requirement is the regulations that will help in reducing business frictions and ensuring that that there is policy formation in the direction of easing investment in this sector, along with resolution of IPO and taxation issues. The third requirement is to build new markets and expand current market and prompt skill development so that there are enough jobs for our IT experts.

The aim should be to match the requirements of a growing industry. For instance, cloud computing and business solutions are the latest trend to emerge in the global software sector. The youth need to have more than basic level skills in IT and computing so that they can take advantage of this trend and capitalize on it. If less is more is the new mantra, than the suggestion by the NASSCOM president should be just right for the government.

He recommends that e-Governance will be the idea tool to esure minimum government and maximum governance. It is effective and economical and it paves the way for inclusive growth for emplowering the youth. Development for all is the aim of the new government so the emphasis should be on capitalizing on the IT sector to bring about a digital revolution.

NASSCOM has also outlined its goals for the coming years. It aims at seeking to expand on the current government's agenda for growth by fast-tracking initiatives and making business easy for IT compaies. A forward looking approach is required for the economic to march forward and India to be the leader in this field.

A historic mandate also means more expectations from the government. The new government should prepare to be tested. Policies that provide an STPI 2.0 scheme applicable for SMEs and start-ups would provide the right environment for the approvals and compliances.

Seed funding support would lead to the birth of new start-ups and create more employmnt. Virtual SEZs are another viable idea proposed by the NASSCOM president. IT needs to be nurtured so that it can grow. The country needs the support so that it can develop. Numbers are important only if they mean more job growth, low inflation, higher value of the rupee and a better future for the country. Governments should support the spirit of growth and development and opposition should be responsible in their duties. India can have the future it deserves then.
