NIC Placement Paper - Selection Process and Test Pattern

About NIC

National Informatics Centre (NIC) was established in 1976. It is a prime builder of e-governance applications. It's headquarter is located in New Delhi, India.

Here, I am going to discuss the selection and interview process conducted in campus placement at NIC.

Selection Process at NIC

The selection process at NIC consists of two rounds:

1. Written Test
2. Personal Interview

The first round conducted is Written Test which is based on pattern of GATE. The duration of test is 3 hours for 65 questions. There is two-types of questions – Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answers Type (NAT) questions. Total marks alloted was 100. MCQs have negative marking whereas NAT do not have any negative marking.

The question paper consists of three sections:
1. General Aptitude
2. Engineering Mathematics
3. Subject-specific section

* General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics is mandatory.

General Aptitude consists questions are like,

1. What will be the next term in the series 2, 5, 10, 17, 28, ____.

2. Complete the sentence - People are witnessing an industry that is __________ on poverty, mostly.
(a) Superior (b) Thriving (c) Leading (d) Discord

Engineering Mathematics consists of questions from probability & statistics, calculus and linear algebra. You can expect questions like:

1. If f(x) is a continuous probability function, then P(X = 2) is:
(a) ½ (b) 2 (c) 0 (d) 1

Subject-specific section consists of questions from the stream that a candidate has chosen.

Personal Interview at NIC

The last round is Personal Interview that mainly consists of technical questions. The questions are related to projects done, experience, database systems, operating systems, cryptography, asymmteric encryption techniques and other technologies. This round is just to check the knowledge and technical skills.
