NIFT exam pattern

Please tell me something about the pattern of NIFT examination.


A candidate needs to be 10+2 or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% to appear for the NIFT entrance examination for undergraduate courses and should not be more than 23 years of age with a relaxation of 5 years for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC community. To apply for a postgraduate program (M.Des or MFM), the candidate should be a graduate from any recognized university of India or should have a diploma or UG from NIFT or NID only. National Institute of Fashion Technology entrance exam consist of two parts. The first part is a written examination also known as GAT (General Ability Test) and CAT (Creative Ability Test). The examination is meant to test the knowledge, skills and aptitude for designing and the course they have applied for. There are 150 questions and the maximum time is three hours. The test consists of five sections:

- Quantitative Ability
- Analytical and Logical Ability
- Case study
- Communication Ability and English Comprehension
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs

Case study is meant to test the managerial abilities and is based on a situation of an industry environment. There are 150 questions with .25 negative marking for every incorrect answer. NIFT entrance exam also consists of CAT. The test is conducted to judge candidate’s intuition skills, design ability, power of observation and innovation in development of a concept.
After getting through the screening examination, both GAT and CAT candidates are called for Situation Test, Personal Interview and General Discussions.
