Eligibility criteria for being an IRS officer are as follows:

• One must possess a degree from an Indian University or an equivalent qualification. Those in the final year of a degree course can also appear in the Preliminary Examination conducted by UPSC.

• The age of the applicant should be 21 years or above but less than 30 years. Relaxations are provided for SC/ST and OBC candidates.

• Must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Step 1: Procure the application form, duly fill it following the instructions and send it to the designated office.

Step 2: Appear the Preliminary examinations with successful grades.

Step 3: If you qualify the Preliminary examination, you will have to appear the Final Examination.

Step 4: If you crack the examination, you shall be called for the interview after which the final selection list is issued.
