Regard, Describe, Define, Mention, Depict, Portray ....... as


Regard... as is a verb that means look on or consider, think of, take to be etc.

E.g.
He is regarded as a hero since he saved the little girl from the rabid dog.

Or, Kyle is regarded as a leader in our group as he has always provided good solutions to problems.

Describe...as can be used to describe someone or something as something.

E.g.

You can describe him as tall since he can touch the rim of the basket in the basketball court.

Or, Will you describe her a gawky teenager as she is all hands and legs when she moves?

Define ...as is used to label something as being something else.

E.g.

The Headmaster defines that kind of behaviour as just being plain impolite.

Or, The shopkeeper defined you as a happy customer since you are willing to try everything.

Depict..as is a phrase used to someone as something.

E.g.

Yes, she did mention that an infant was in trouble, but to depict her as a hero is taking it too far.

Or, She dressed the latest girlie fashion to depict herself as younger than she was.

Portray...as is used to show that someone can be represented as someone or something. It is often used to indicate a character that someone is playing on stage.

E.g.

Martin is being portrayed as Macbeth in the Shakespearean play of the same name.

Or, The bright young man is portrayed as the future of that political party.
