Sample letter to reduce shop rent

Sample letter to reduce shop rent

I am writing to you in regard to the completion of our lease agreement dated 27th Mar’13 for a period of 11 months. The agreement will cease on 26th Feb’14.

With the lease renewal, my earnest request to reduce the rent by Rs.3,000/- per month. I am already paying an amount of Rs.28,000/- p.m. and request you to make a settlement at Rs.25,000/- p.m. in the coming lease agreement.

I had been paying the rent on time and my punctuality in the payment of rent amount had never been an issue so far. As you can judge and analyse the number of restaurants in the locality 5 years back, when I started on with in this shop and the sudden upsurge in the restaurant chain within an year’s time. I am facing a huge financial setback and unable to bear the high rental burden.

I hope you can understand my genuine concern and extend your supporting hand in this crucial phase of my business life.

Thanking you in anticipation.

You might be certainly aware of the downturn of our national economy. Many industries are struggling now, and the retail industry is one of the worst hit. We are struggling to make ends meet. Our profits have reduced to a large extent after recession began.

I am writing to make you a request to reduce my rental obligation each month until the economy improves.
Honestly, it would be very difficult for me to continue doing business with the current rent and would be highly grateful if you could consider my request. I am sure you would prefer a tenant paying some portion of the rent instead of them going out of business and leaving behind a vacant shop with no rental income whatsoever.

Hence, I would be happy if you give my proposal a serious thought and make a formal change in the lease agreement only for a certain period that is until the economy revives. Once it does, we will go back to the previous agreement. Please contact me in order to arrange for a meeting and discuss this matter in detail.

Await a positive reply. Thanking you in anticipation.
