Sky is green

Have you worked in an organization before? In any conglomerate of people, any team, any collaborative effort, there are all sorts of people who come together to make it happen. One of them is called the yes man. The person who is always in agreement with whatever the boss says. Such people are prone to sycophancy, will always be in agreement with the team and the seniors.

Rarely do such people go beyond their capacity. It is not often that one can see them produce stupendous results. They are not those who can be expected to stand up for their rights and speak their minds. They cannot become leaders

But I believe that I am made of sterner stuff. I cannot see the sky as green. I see it as blue. I say this with a lot of pride that I am not one of those who is afraid of calling a spade a spade. However, I will address the situation with tact and diplomacy. I will not put myself in a position of choosing integrity and politics. I cannot stoop down the any level for convenience.

I choose integrity and correctness against even difficult odds. I believe that it will always pay in the long run. "In looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if they don't have the first, the other two will kill you."— Warren Buffet CEO, Berkshire Hathaway.

The sky to me looks blue with shades and hues or red and orange and different shades of yellow. It symbolizes the beauty of nature, the expansiveness of nature. The sky seems to be a shelter, and it reflects the colour blue the most. It covers and protects the whole earth.

It allows for copious amounts of sun to enable growth and life. It produces and enables green which is the colour of life, the colour of plants and the trees and Mother Nature on earth.

    Introduction

This is a very peculiar subject. We have always known the sky to be blue, or white during the day. Early mornings it will be a gold red, and at dusk, it turns a reddish orange. At night the sky turns an inky bluish black. I had never heard of a green sky. So I went online and did a little research. This is what I found.

Run, the sky is turning green!

Many people say that the sky turns green during a tornado. Some people also say that a green sky is an indication of a tornado. Scientists say that a greenish hue to the sky can mean an impending tornado, but it is not necessary. It could be simply an indication of rough weather. According to some, it is a result of sunlight passing through hailstones. Hailstones are a solid form of water, or in other words, ice. If the water particles can reach high enough to allow sunlight to reflect through them, it can be concluded that rough weather is in store.

However, there could be other reasons for the sky to turn a shade of green. According to some scientists, the water particles (or hailstones) are so small, that they are able to bend light, which makes the color appear different. This, combined with the red color of a setting sun, can make the sky look green. Generally tornadoes are known to strike either in the mornings, or during sunsets; both giving the red glow to the sun.

Most references either agreed with or disagreed with a green sky being a tornado warning. So I thought of looking at it from a different angle altogether. Those of us familiar with the movie Pirates of the Caribbean – At World’s End, know that the green flash in the sky signifies that a soul comes back to the world from the dead.

All said and done, looking at things from a fun point of view does lighten the mood a bit, but back to the serious bits of a green sky. Sometimes, a green flash can cause a patch of the sky to appear green. A green flash is a visual that occurs due to a temperature inversion, which happens when there is an increase in temperature with decrease in altitude, or vice versa.

    Conclusion

At the end of a long day, scientists throughout are divided on the reason of the sky turning green. Some even say that it is an illusion caused by the elements, and the sky does not actually turn green. Some others say that there is no connection between the green sky and an impending tornado. As we are familiar with scientific debates, there are no conclusive facts. That which is proven right today will be challenged tomorrow.

In India, we generally need not worry about tornadoes, or hailstorms, unless we live in places like Orissa, West Bengal, or Jharkand, which are among the tornado prone areas in India (tornadoes are not as common in India). However, if you do see the sky turning a shade of green, make sure you run for cover. Keep an eye on the weather forecast. Find shelter underground, either a basement of a building, or a cellar. Chances are that a tornado could strike soon.
