TATA Led Neotel Secures Ground Breaking Deal

TATA led South African telecom operator Neotel has obtained a ground-breaking deal with State Information Technology Agency (SITA) and the provincial government of the Western Cape so that broadband services can be provided across the province over the next 3 years.

What is distinctive about this project is that it is the first of its type in South Africa. It has strict guidelines for delivering sties and service levels in a complete private-public partnership. This is ideal for leveraging skills, expertise and resources of each party for providing broadband services across the Province.

The Western Cape government has now concentrated on understanding its vision for province which Neotel now aims to partner in order to translate it into a reality, according to the MD and CEO, Sunil Joshi.

Neotel has also announced its honour for being chosen for the deployment of fibre optic infrastructure across the Province for the provision of broadband and voice services for governmental departments. The aim is also to make such services available to communities, households and businesses for the creation of a connected Province.

Neotel is aiming for initiatives which are a direct outcome of the Western Cape Provincial Government's Vision 2030. The aim is to let every citizen have access to broadband in daily lives. In this project, Neotel will work towards providing connectivity to nearly 2000 sites across the province in a mix of government buildings, libraries, healthcare institutions and schools. Large, medium and small businesses as well as other government departments will benefit from infrastructure and connectivity for rolling out broadband, voice, data centre and VPN requirements.

In this strategic project, Neotel has also partnered with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism for provision of free Wi-Fi services to local communities at the site of every ward for the duration of the project. This continues with the commitment to aid and assist social development and upliftment of communities in different regions.

Neotel will also be offering leading edge voice, broadband, VPN and other innovative communication services to local businesses. This comprises small or large government departments as well as institutions in the Province and households as there is further expansion of wireless and fibre networks across the Western Cape Province for the purpose of developing communities and enterprise development.

This enables entrepreneurs to gain new opportunities for growth and development of sustainable skills. TATA Communications is one of the top stakeholders in Neotel which has now been established as a competitor to the fixed-line state operator Telkom.
